A virtual private network commonly known as a VPN creates a safe, encrypted environment where one can safely access an otherwise unsafe public connection. It works by encrypting the data from the sending end and decrypting it at the receiving end therefore if someone were to intercept the data during transmission it would most likely not make sense to them. The security is further enhanced by encrypting both the originating and receiving Internet Protocol (IP) addresses.
